Formation for Justice and Righteousness

I want to share with you a glimpse into what's next for Prayer Sparks. After the kickstarter stage, our plan has always been to try and make the move to a diversified lineup of tools. The most obvious direction is decks with various themes, and focusing on particular paths of spiritual formation. (Virtues and the Fruits of the Spirit, Tools for Discernment, A companion for reading scripture, Family conversation tools, etc.)

One path of spiritual formation that has never seemed more critical to me is that which leads us towards a sacred vision of justice—aligning us with God's concern for all those that suffer. In the Hebrew Bible, Justice is commonly paired with righteousness, and God often expresses the will that those who seek God would be a people of "Justice and Righteousness." And so, our next target is to raise enough funds where we can generate a resource specifically for that purpose. That will just be a progression as sales of the original decks of Prayer Sparks continue, and we reserve a portion of those sales for future product development.

There is a tricky line here, though, as I am extremely reluctant to profit off of such a product—it just doesn't seem right. And so, our intention is to collect whatever would be our typical profit margin on a deck, and donate that to organizations like the Equal Justice Initiative, for the sake of their sacred work promoting racial justice. Our real desire is to simply offer the tool for those that might benefit from it.
